Our 3D printers get a lot of use, and they need regular care to keep turning out clean prints. Join us for a hands-on work session where we'll go through the shop's printers together: cleaning, calibrating, and handling routine maintenance so they're ready for everyone's next project.
No experience needed. If you've never touched a 3D printer, this is one of the best ways to learn. Leveling a bed, cleaning a nozzle, tensioning a belt, and dialing in calibration teaches you more about how these machines work than a stack of finished prints ever will. You'll leave understanding why prints fail and how to fix them.
If you print at the shop, please come. The printers wear because we use them, and everyone who uses them shares in keeping them running. Being part of the upkeep is part of being a maker here, and it will make you a better printer operator too. We strongly encourage every regular 3D printer user to attend.
What we'll be working on (depending on what each printer needs):
- Cleaning build plates, nozzles, fans, and enclosures
- Leveling beds and calibrating extruders
- Checking and tensioning belts
- Lubricating rails and lead screws
- Resin printer cleanup and vat inspection
- Inspecting for worn parts and noting what needs replacing
- Running test prints to confirm everything is dialed in
What to bring:
- Just yourself. Tools and supplies are provided.
- A willingness to get your hands a little dirty
- Any questions you've had about 3D printing. This is a great time to ask.
